It's now 12 months since Weather Risk Advisory first approached
GEIF for help in raising our seed capital round. We had already
spent a couple of months chasing funds and though we had some commitments,
we needed more to complete a sensible first round.
Having enjoyed the support of our families, friends and bankers,
it was hard to know where to look next. Conversations with venture
capital contacts confirmed that Weather Risk Advisory was too "early
stage" for them (unless we were prepared to become an e-business,
but that's another story!) and that we should continue to target
angel investors for the time being.
Having taken the advice of our accountants, venture capital contacts
and others, we submitted our business plan to GEIF and were delighted
to be asked to speak at March's Presentation Day. It was with a
great deal of trepidation that I stood before the assembled crowd
- having the "opportunity" of delivering the final presentation
of the morning didn't help my nerves - but our break-out sessions
were full, confirming that we had managed to convey our excitement
to much of the audience.
