Introduction | The
Programme | On-Line
Is entrepreneurship teachable? That question has been posed many
times in recent years as 'entrepreneurship' has been identified
by industrial gurus, academics and politicians as the cornerstone
of a knowledge-based economy.
With the expansion of the activities of the joint University of
Cambridge-Cambridge Network Programme for Entrepreneurs, this question
will be put to the test. If the Eastern Region is to maintain its
position as one of Europe's most active centres for technology-based
entrepreneurship, it needs to generate a continuous flow of strong
start-up companies.
The Programme for Entrepreneurs is already paving the way, by providing
valuable training for the Eastern Region's 'Generation X'
young people with the knowledge and skills to create the technology
giants of the next century. Programme events include evening lectures,
evening workshops, summer schools, and the organisation of an on-line
information service and an annual business plan competition.
The Programme began in September 1998 with a series of high profile
lectures, including David Potter (Chairman of Psion plc) and Dr
Chris Evans (Chairman of Merlin Ventures). Lectures for this autumn
include Dr Roy Whitfield (Chairman of Incyte Pharmaceuticals) and
Robin Saxby (Chairman of ARM plc).
Evening events, chaired by Acorn founder Hermann Hauser, are followed
by an opportunity to network. Facilitated workshops are then open
for those interested in gaining more skills in the underlying topic
of the lecture.
