History | The Trial | Now

Astron Clinica, which changed its name from Optiscan in order to establish worldwide trademark protection, gained European Medical Device Certification for the SIAscope late last year. It was recently awarded Millennium Product status and has attracted attention from both the national media and doctors across the globe. Since May '99 the organisation has grown from two to eight staff and has expanded into new premises. Negotiations are underway with German and Australian distributors.

Managing director Mike Cane explained "Britain has a reputation for sometimes failing to exploit its best scientific discoveries. When I first heard about this technology, I knew that it had the potential to be a world-beater - so we started to create a new business around it. We used our own money and a DTI SMART award before approaching the investment community via the GEIF."
