The shortage of experienced and commercially aware individuals
coupled with the growing competition amongst start-ups has led to
resourcing issues taking an unprecedented high profile on the strategic
agenda. In these circumstances showing that you are already aware
of the need for help in this area can create a positive impression
to third parties.
But how then do you go about filling the gaps and expanding the
existing team? The traditional approach has been to utilise search
and selection and headhunting services and benefit from reduced
recruitment advertising costs and being able to tap into vast databases
of applicants. However we have seen a marked change in this process
where firms of headhunters have adopted a closer and more proactive
approach and taken the time to get to know the culture and market
place of the business so they can work with a more realistic and
specific brief.
As well as utilising the more traditional recruitment methods start-ups
and early stage businesses have also found the benefits of using
a network of contacts in the business community. Forging close alliances
with local consultants can be a very proactive way of tapping into
a network of potential applicants who may not be active in the market
place, but be looking for their next opportunity in a quite informal
way.
