The shortage of experienced and commercially aware individuals coupled with the growing competition amongst start-ups has led to resourcing issues taking an unprecedented high profile on the strategic agenda. In these circumstances showing that you are already aware of the need for help in this area can create a positive impression to third parties.

But how then do you go about filling the gaps and expanding the existing team? The traditional approach has been to utilise search and selection and headhunting services and benefit from reduced recruitment advertising costs and being able to tap into vast databases of applicants. However we have seen a marked change in this process where firms of headhunters have adopted a closer and more proactive approach and taken the time to get to know the culture and market place of the business so they can work with a more realistic and specific brief.

Forging close alliances with local consultants can be a very proactive way of tapping into a network of potential applicants who may not be active in the market place, but be looking for their next opportunity in a quite informal way.
