FISHING FOR GLORY- CASIENT's 'SHOAL' TECHNOLOGY GETS GEIF SUPPORT
When Cambridge-based Casient, the creator of state-of-the art wireless
mesh-networking technology (Shoal), came to a Great Eastern Investment
Forum angel network presentation day hoping to attract seed funding,
its management team were delighted with the support and encouragement
they received, both from the GEIF team and the GEIF business angels.
They were even happier to see the GEIF angel funding matched by
the GEIF Ventures Early Growth Fund, a £5 million fund established
to co-invest with GEIF business angels into promising businesses.
GEIFV is able to co-invest initially up to £100,000 and, if appropriate,
follow up its investment with up to £400,000 after 9 months.
"Getting funding was key to our development plans and the advice
we received from GEIF in the run up to the presentation day was
invaluable." said John Conaghan, MD of Casient. "We are now in a
position to pursue our product development schedule and reach our
first revenue milestones this year."
Andrea Blakesley, director of GEIF, which is part of the NW Brown
Group, said, "We are delighted that yet again GEIF's business angels
have been able to help a local company fulfil its ambitions. A key
element of the GEIF approach is to help companies seeking investment
to prepare for the presentation day and make their business case
as clearly as they can for potential investors".
The next GEIF presentation day is being held on Thursday 16
September at the Q.ton Forum . Attendance is open to both GEIF
members and non-members - for full details please email marie-france.vincent@nwbrown.co.uk
