FARLEIGH's 100 LAWS OF TRADING AND INVESTMENT

March 05

Richard Farleigh, the 44 year old Monaco based Australian financier who 'retired' in 1995 only to resurface as one of the most prolific investors in UK early stage technology companies, will give Great Eastern Investment Forum (GEIF) members and guests an insight into his '100 laws of trading in financial markets' when he speaks at GEIF's forthcoming breakfast briefing on Friday April 29th.

With an aptitude for mathematics and a first class honours degree in Economics, Richard quickly made his mark and the foundation of his fortune working in banking in Australia. His big break came when he was head hunted by a Bermuda based hedge fund where in three years he earned enough to retire.

Moving to Europe in 1995 he started backing technology companies in the UK and in less than 10 years has invested in over 50, of which 12 have floated, 3 are about to, a further 3 have been acquired, and 15 are progressing steadily. Such local Cambridge companies as Amino Technologies PLC and Ant have been backed by Richard as have other high profile technology companies such as ARC International PLC, Clearspeed International PLC and Wolfson Microelectronics PLC. He was also a co-founder and backer of the top international private club, Home House in London.

Whilst his four main rules of investment remain - i.e. invest in companies which are best in their field, unique, promising research ventures or clearly undervalued - Richard Farleigh has over the years compiled his own list of 100 rules for trading in financial markets which are soon to be published in his first book.

Despite such diverse pursuits as international standard chess, skiing and boating, Richard remains one of the most active big league business angels investing in UK technology companies and his presentation at the GEIF breakfast briefing is one of his very rare presentations to investors.

As Farleigh says "there is more technology out there than good management, but with the help of intelligent business angel finance a company has a better chance of success".

The breakfast briefing is kindly sponsored by Ernst and Young. Anyone wishing to attend the meeting or wanting to learn more about GEIF should contact Marie-France Vincent on 01223 720316 or email marie-france.vincent@nwbrown.co.uk. GEIF is part of the NW Brown Group, a Cambridge-based company offering a comprehensive range of financial services to private and corporate clients.
